THE YORK WAITS with DEBORAH CATTERALL – CHRISTMAS MUSICKE
Artist: THE YORK WAITS with DEBORAH CATTERALL
Any city or decent size town in the period 1400 – 1800 would have its band of musicians called Waits. The role of the Waits was often civic and ceremonial, but it could vary from place to place. York Waits was formed to recreate this music using reproductions of the original instruments and playing original music. The music would have been specially composed or be traditional melodies. The Waits bands operated across Europe and the music on this CD ranges from the Mediterranean to Finland. Some of the material will be very familiar and others more obscure. Comprehensive booklet notes sets them all into context.
