CD Description:
Freddy Randall was one of the legends of British Jazz. A fiery trumpeter who followed the Chicago/Dixieland route and, until Alex Welsh established his band, led the finest band of its type in the UK. Freddy dropped off the scene in 1958, returned briefly in the mid-sixties before returning to form a very fine band with clarinettist Dave Shepherd in 1972. This CD comprises the last set of recordings he made with his own band in 1957 before his first departure and a set recorded under the name of Britain’s Greatest Jazz Band in 1972. This latter band, with one personnel change, became The Freddy Randall-Dave Shepherd All Stars. Both bands contained top class musicians and included on the CD are Dave Shepherd, George Chisholm, Brian Lemon, Al Gay, Pete Hodge, Gerry Salisbury, Kenny Baldock, Syd Boatman, Johnny Richardson and Buzz Green.
