HOT FINGERS – IN GLORIOUS MONO
Artist: HOT FINGERS
Spats Langham is no stranger to the LAKE Records catalogue either through his own CDs with his Hot Combination (LACDs228 & 274) his collaborations with Martin Litton and Malcolm Sked (LACDs 226 & 287)and his guest appearances on other CDs. The group he probably does most work with is Hot Fingers: Spats on vocals, guitar, banjo and ukulele, Danny Blyth on guitar, mandolin, clarinets and vocals, Malcolm Sked on double and brass basses. Added to the mixture is their regular guest vocalist, Emily Campbell. The title is derived from the fact that it is volume 2 of our Vintage Jazz Recording Project series and was recorded using a single ribbon microphone as it would have been in the 1930s. The eclectic repertoire – ranging from gypsy jazz through Ukulele Ike to Louis Prima taking in Gershwin on the way – is performed with skill and panache and has resulted in an excellent, hugely enjoyable CD.
