STEVE LANE’S FAMOUS STOUTHERN STOMPERS 1960-67
Artist: REMEMBERING STEVE LANE
Steve Lane is one of the unsung heroes of British Traditional Jazz. Trumpeter Lane formed his first band in 1949. He remained doggedly loyal to the Classic style of Jazz typified by King Oliver, Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton in the 1920s. Steve remained semi-professional all his life, but was highly respected as a mentor to many aspiring Jazz musicians over the years. Alongside his playing Steve also ran three record labels, VJM, Halcyon and Azure. This compilation covers a very fruitful ten year period in Steve Lane’s career and, as well as theSouthern Stompers it includes 5 tracks by the VJM Washboard Band. Steve died in 2015 aged 95.
